I love the first hour of my morning. It’s the part of the day that is all mine, and it puts me in a positive headspace for the rest of the day.
I start with my faith – I read a daily devotional that contains a scripture verse, essay, and short prayer. I follow it up with the Prayer of St. Francis, and then I read a passage from Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn (mindfulness meditations). This is followed by a 10 minute guided meditation using the Calm app.
Once I’m in a positive spiritual place, I move my body with 10-15 minutes of yoga and gentle stretching. It feels good to connect my mind, body, and spirit.
And then I do a brain dump using Julia Cameron’s morning pages. I just write down whatever is on my mind for three pages. I start with a prayer, five things I’m grateful for, and then whatever else is on my mind goes onto the page.
Once I’m finished, then I head into the kitchen to make breakfast and prepare for the rest of my day.
