How would you improve your community?

Showing up, being present, extending invitations, praying over meals with others, cleaning up the neighborhood, and volunteering are suggestions I’ve read in this thread.

And, I love them all!

I was wondering what I could add, and then this came to mind.

Improving the community starts with YOU.

Many times we (or maybe it’s just me) wait for someone else to take the lead and then we jump on board. Or maybe we don’t jump on board but we compliment or praise the person who is doing the work.

And that doesn’t cut it.

Each one of us has a responsibility to improve our community. It doesn’t fall on the shoulders of someone else.

We are the someone else.

So, in answer to the question, it all begins with YOU (and me). Whatever it is we decide to do to make a difference, it’s taking that first step to do so.

It could be smiling and waving to a neighbor, volunteering to grocery shop for someone who can’t get out to do it themselves, inviting someone over for a meal, picking trash up routinely, or organizing a neighborhood get together.

The possibilities are truly endless.
