We all need one.

As I prepare to start my 33rd year in education, I pondered what I need to do to enter it fully with compassion and enjoyment.
The answer was actually pretty easy. I needed a reset.
I feel like that happens quite a bit for many of us in the Northern Hemisphere. Summer is unusually busy in many ways whether it’s going on vacation, visiting friends and family, doing projects around the home, unexpected changes, or all of the above.
I have a habit of trying to do too much at once. As the calendar flipped to August 1 this morning, I found myself in that familiar rush of wanting to do all the things with regard to my health.
Then I pumped the brakes.
My son and I recently talked about our physical health and that it seems to drive the other facets of our health: intellectual, emotional, and spiritual.
When I feel good physically, the other parts seem to fall into place more easily.
The Process.
During August, my focus will be on three areas only. It’s a process, not a goal, because it’s ongoing. I’m simply making a more conscious effort.
The first is to continue tracking my saturated fat. I have somewhat high cholesterol but not enough to need medication. I don’t want to reach that point, so I’ve been concentrating on 20 grams or fewer each day.
I started tracking it in July and was successful 25 days. It’s a solid start, and so I’m continuing to track it in my journal.
The second is also a diet focus. I will work to have 4–6 servings of fruits and vegetables collectively on a daily basis. Do I need more? Yes. However, I need a starting point and this is it.
The third is 10,000 steps daily. My movement is sporadic at best. I’m going to get outside for more walks and utilize our walking pad consistently.
That’s it. I will continue working to lower my cholesterol by tracking saturated fat, eat more fruits and vegetables, and add more consistent movement daily.
In Conclusion.
By focusing on three things, I’m not going to get overwhelmed and quit. In all actuality, it’s two things since one is a continuation. That’s even better. Keep it simple.
How about you? Do you need a reset?
Today would be a good day to take stock of what would enhance your health: physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual.
Pick three actions and see how it goes. Or, pick one.
As I’ve discovered, less is better.
Until next time, cheers!
